India is the largest producer of millets in the world and we produce more than 8 varieties millets in India. We have excellent network of farmers with whom we ensure to get the best Millets by providing them technical, financial and agricultural support. Government of India is helping all farmers and players who are engage in promoting Millet. In year 2023, India observed “International Year of Millets”.
Sorghum is a crop from the Gramineae family that is high in carbohydrates, it is one of the staple crops for millions of semi-arid residents, is also known as “The KING OF MILLETS'. Its main ingredient is starch, which is digested more slowly than in other cereals and also has a low protein and fat digestibility. The onset of non-communicable diseases is significantly influenced by oxidative stress and excessive free radical production. The expression of the phase II enzyme is controlled by sorghum derived phenolic chemicals. These operate as the body's natural defence against oxidative stress by converting highly reactive electrophilic species (RES)into harmless and excretable metabolites.
Pearl millet is a “high-energy” cereal that contains carbohydrates, protein, and fat, rich in vitamins B and A, high in calcium, iron, and zinc, and also contains potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, copper, and manganese.
Finger millet is considered one of the most nutritious cereals. Finger millet contains about 5–8% protein, 1–2% ether extractives, 65–75% carbohydrates, 15–20% dietary fiber and 2.5–3.5% minerals. Of all the cereals and millets, finger millet has the highest amount of calcium (344mg%) and potassium (408mg%). The cereal has low fat content (1.3%) and contains mainly unsaturated fat. 100 grams of Finger millet has roughly on an average of 336 KCal of energy in them.
Barnyard millet has a sweet, nutty flavour, and is easy to cook with different spices. Apart from being delicious, Barnyard millet benefits heart and kidney health.
The presence of a high amount of fibre, iron, and phosphorus in Barnyard millet is helpful in controlling blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. It has gained more popularity in the Sattvic movement to embrace native gains that are good for both humans and the environment.
Kodo millet is repository of nutrients, a great substitute for rice and wheat. With a whopping 11% protein for every 100 grams, it is also a rich source of fibre at 10 grams, 66.6 grams of carbohydrates, 353kcal, 3.6 grams of fat, besides impressive presence of calcium, iron, polyphenols and various other nutrients.
Foxtail Millet is low in glycaemic index and has high level of crude fibre. It is also hypolipidemic, that is, it helps decrease lipids in blood. Amino acids present in Foxtail Millet are comparable to the soy protein concentrate. Foxtail Millet has a sweet and nutty flavour.
Little Millet is a good source of fibre, iron, calcium and other beneficial nutrients, little millet can play a valuable role in a healthy diet. The gluten-free nature of this millet makes it suitable for people with gluten sensitivity or intolerance. Its neutral flavour profile also lends well to both savoury and sweet preparations spanning porridges, pilaffs, baked treats and more. So beyond being nutritious, little millet showcases versatility too.
Proso Millet are a rich source of vitamins (niacin, B-complex vitamins, and folic acid), minerals (PCa, Zn, Fe) and essential amino acids (methionine and cysteine), starch, and phenolic compounds like antioxidants and Beta-glucan. Seeds also contain components with healing benefits, which decrease the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in blood and injury to the liver and high lecithin content which supports the neural health system.
